The Tasmanian Government will lead a Tourism Mission to New Zealand from 31 July – 4 August 2022 as part of its plan to grow and diversify opportunities across the globe.

Tasmania’s Premier and Minister for Tourism, the Honourable Jeremy Rockliff will lead Tasmania’s delegation with support from Tourism Tasmania and the Department of State Growth. The Tourism Mission will also coincide with the already announced Trade Mission to New Zealand.

Tourism Tasmania is inviting members of Tasmania’s tourism industry to participate in the New Zealand Tourism Mission 2022 (NZ22). The Mission is a great opportunity to build upon existing relationships, increase awareness and secure business with key New Zealand travel partners.

Businesses who are currently active in or actively pursuing the New Zealand market are encouraged to express interest in attending.

Tourism Tasmania’s primary objectives of NZ22 are to:

  • Build on relationships with key tourism industry partners, retail travel trade, product and/or operation managers.
  • Educate, excite and motivate travel trade partners to include more Tasmanian product in their inventory and encourage them to include it within their sales recommendations to clients.

Key dates:

  • Sunday 31 July 2022 – Fly Hobart to Auckland
  • Monday 1 August 2022 – Tourism Tasmania media event (morning)
  • Monday 1 August 2022 – Tasmanian Government trade networking event (evening) with VIP delegates from across various industries.
  • Tuesday 2 August 2022 – Tourism Tasmania together with Tasmanian tourism operators B2B and Networking event (full day)
  • Wednesday 3 August 2022 – Tourism Tasmania appointments with key tourism trade partners – to be confirmed
  • Thursday 4 August 2022 – Fly Auckland - Hobart

Eligibility criteria

    1. Tasmanian based tourism business/product
    2. Listed on the Australian Tourism Data Warehouse (ATDW)
    3. Open to activating immediate business opportunities with NZ travel trade partners
    4. Business/product has established relationships with New Zealand travel trade, and/or has a presence in itineraries being packaged in the market with a major New Zealand wholesaler or retail travel partners in New Zealand
    5. The business/product can demonstrate experience in managing international bookings, with rates, policies and procedures in place.
    6. Business/product has the ability to be booked and commission paid at the appropriate international levels (between 20-30%).
    7. Business/product has its own website or the product or service is available by an alternative distribution channel; and

Tourism Tasmania reserves the right to make the final selection of products at its absolute discretion based on the product’s suitability in relation to the event.

Spaces are limited. Tourism Tasmania will review all EOIs with the final selection of products considered on their ability to meet the eligibility criteria, their suitability for the New Zealand market and to ensure a balance of Tasmanian products are represented.

Costs

Participating businesses will be expected to arrange and cover the cost of their own air, accommodation, travel insurance costs, meals (other than those included in the final program), luggage and other associated travel costs.  The costs associated with the venue hire and hosting of the B2B Tourism event will be managed by Tourism Tasmania.

There is an expectation that each operator contributes to substantial prize draws for all NZ travel delegates attending.  In addition, Tourism Tasmania will look to fly in key travel partners from other parts of New Zealand and may seek to have this financially supported by Tasmanian tourism operators.  These details will be finalised prior to confirming operator attendance (would not expect this cost to be more than $500 per operator).

Financial assistance

Financial assistance may be available to eligible Tasmanian-based small and medium-sized enterprises for the purpose of developing new national and international markets.

The Austrade administered Export Market Development Grant (EMDG) scheme is a key Australian Government financial assistance program for aspiring and current exporters. The scheme supports a wide range of industry sectors and products, including and of particular note inbound tourism.
