Tasmania to host Australian Tourism Export Council’s Meeting Place in 2026

Tasmania will host the Australian Tourism Export Council’s Meeting Place for the first time next year, with the event to be held in Hobart from 26-28 October 2026

The announcement was made in Perth on 29 October following Tourism Tasmania’s successful bid to secure hosting rights for the prestigious event. ATEC Meeting Place is one of Australia’s major travel trade events, providing a platform for tourism operators to showcase their products and experiences to travel distribution companies active in international markets.

The event will bring together more than 500 delegates, including around 120 travel buyers active in Tasmania’s key visitor markets of USA, UK, Greater China, Singapore, and New Zealand. It will include business meetings, destination showcases, networking events, and a conferencing program, all designed to foster strategic partnerships and drive tourism growth.

Hosting Meeting Place is an opportunity to grow awareness of Tasmania's unique and premium tourism experiences to some of the world’s most influential travel buyers, who have the power to amplify the state's offerings to travellers across various international markets. This will elevate the island's global tourism profile, supporting its long-term strategy to grow international visitation to 20 per cent of total visitation by 2030.

Additionally, the event will activate venues across Hobart, fill hundreds of hotel beds, and generate millions of dollars in economic benefit for the state. Media and social media exposure will also provide a boost Tasmania tourism sector among both travel trade and consumer audiences.

Alongside the event, Tourism Tasmania will deliver a unique experience for travel buyers including itineraries around the state to get a first-hand experience of what Tasmania offers international visitors. These visits pre and post the event will deepen the travel trade’s connection with the state, creating lasting impact.

The announcement reinforces Tasmania's position as a premium international tourism destination and business events location. Just this month, Hobart was named as one of the top 10 global ‘Destinations of the Year’ in Expedia’s ‘Unpack 2026’ report as a key trending destination.

Tasmania has become one of the best destinations for international travellers to visit – and the world is noticing.
