What the research tells us

Bushwalking is one of the most sought after experiences for interstate and international visitors, enjoyed by more than 630,000 visitors a year. Shorter bushwalks attract nearly 490,000 visitors annually, while longer walks draw nearly 180,000 walking enthusiasts.

Economic impact:

Those 630,000 visitors who experienced our bushwalking offering make up roughly half of Tasmania's total visitation. This shows how important outdoor recreation is to our state's tourism economy.

Our research on walking provides a guide for operators seeking to understand the motivations and expectations of this important market segment.

We have produced a detailed research report to help you understand and connect with the walking market.
