Tasmania offers 2,800km of walking trails across 880 walks. With 40% of the island protected as national parks, reserves and World Heritage areas, visitors can experience endemic flora and fauna found nowhere else on Earth. Bushwalking is one of the most sought after experiences for interstate and international visitors, enjoyed by more than 630,000 visitors a year. Shorter bushwalks attract nearly 490,000 visitors annually, while longer walks draw nearly 180,000 walking enthusiasts.
Economic impact:
Those 630,000 visitors who experienced our bushwalking offering make up roughly half of Tasmania's total visitation. This shows how important outdoor recreation is to our state's tourism economy.
