How to become trade ready

If you're looking to become travel trade ready, you should be able to answer yes to the following.

  • Does your business have an active profile on the Australian Tourism Data Warehouse?
  • Do you have a solid understanding of the distribution system and the different types of distribution partners?
  • Can you articulate your unique selling points and align them with your target markets?
  • Are you willing to invest in building relationships with distribution partners through trade shows, sales missions, sales calls or networking events?
  • Have you researched the current visitor statistics for your region?
  • Is your business already contracted with at least one distribution partner?
  • Are you prepared to invest in trade and media activity to promote your product or experience?
  • Do you understand how commission and net rates work?
  • Do you have suitable booking systems and credit management processes in place?
  • Have you set your rates for at least 12 months in advance?

If you answered no to any of these, we recommend spending some time learning more about the distribution system and whether it's the right fit for your business. You can contact our team for more information, or access resources and training through the Australian Tourism Export Council (ATEC).

ATEC runs a comprehensive training program that we recommend for operators new to this space that covers how the distribution system works and how to collaborate effectively with distribution partners.

Once you've completed the training and feel comfortable working with travel trade, get in touch with us to talk through your plans and the options available to you.
