Positive impact

A positive impact survey was conducted with both prospective and actual visitors to Tasmania, which highlighted the strong desire from our domestic visitors to have a positive impact.

What makes visitors feel positive: Both potential first time and repeat visitors identified supporting local businesses, clean air and water, experiencing protected nature and consuming local produce as the top four factors that contribute most positively to their Tasmania travel experience.

Language needs to be simple and active: Travellers prefer language that is more frequently used and less technical (for example, responsible travel, eat local, respecting wildlife, welcoming for everyone). Preferred language is clear and active (for example, no single use plastic, protecting wildlife).

Biosecurity matters: Visitors care about biosecurity because it protects farmers and agriculture and wildlife and nature, with more than half believing it demonstrates how much Tasmania cares about protecting its environment.

We are also hearing about the importance of positive impact and sustainability among international visitors. The research from Tourism Australia tells us there is a high level of awareness and concern for the environment when travelling, with 7 in 10 visitors saying it is important to them. Highlighting sustainable initiatives helps Tasmania to be more desirable and competitive with potential international visitors.
