In October 2026, Tasmania will host the Australian Tourism Export Council's Meeting Place for the first time, with the event coming to Hobart from 26 to 28.
The announcement was made in Perth on 29 October, following our successful bid to secure hosting rights for the event. ATEC Meeting Place is one of Australia's major travel trade events, providing a platform for tourism operators to showcase their products and experiences to travel distribution companies active in international markets.
The event will bring together more than 500 delegates, including around 120 travel buyers active in Tasmania's key visitor markets of USA, UK, Greater China, Singapore and New Zealand. It will include business meetings, destination showcases, networking events and a conferencing program, all designed to build strategic partnerships and drive tourism growth.
Hosting Meeting Place is an opportunity to grow awareness of Tasmania's tourism experiences among some of the world's most influential travel buyers, who can extend the state's reach to travellers across international markets. This supports the long-term strategy to grow international visitation to 20 per cent of total visitation by 2030.
The event will also activate venues across Hobart, fill hundreds of hotel beds and generate millions of dollars in economic benefit for the state. Media and social media exposure will provide a boost to the tourism sector among both travel trade and consumer audiences.
Alongside the event, we will deliver dedicated itineraries for travel buyers around the state, giving them a direct experience of what Tasmania offers international visitors. These pre and post event visits will deepen the travel trade's connection with the state and create lasting impact.
The announcement reflects well on Tasmania's standing as an international tourism destination and business events location. This month, Hobart was named one of the top 10 global Destinations of the Year in Expedia's Unpack 2026 report.
It is good to see the world taking notice.
