Mona Foma kicking off big year for Launceston’s festival calendar
Will Hodgman, Premier & Minister for Tourism, Hospitality and Events.
Mona Foma, which kicks off this week, will play a dramatic role in this year’s exciting northern events and festivals program.
The Tasmanian Government helped secure Mona Foma in the north for three more years, and has boosted support for Festivale, as part of our $6 million events and arts funding plan to encourage our visitors to see more of the state, stay longer, and spend more while they are here.
Importantly our high quality events are also enjoyed by many Tasmanians, showcasing our fine creative industries and supporting the local economy.
In addition, as part of our $4 million Events Attraction Fund, the Government is also supporting the brand new Australian Musical Theatre Festival and the Special Olympics in 2020 and 2022, to drive tourism through Launceston’s off-peak season.
Northern Tasmania has a great reputation for successfully hosting major events and festivals.
The Tasmanian Government strongly invests in events and festivals because they are an important part of our way of life, and of our visitor economy which support local businesses and jobs.
