Tourism 21 - A Strategic Business Plan 1997-2000
|
Foreword
The Tasmanian Government, Tourism Tasmania and the Tourism Council
of Australia [Tasmanian Branch] are pleased to release Tourism 21,
a comprehensive Strategic Business Plan which will generate long
term, sustainable tourism growth for Tasmania.
Tourism is a key strategic growth industry for Tasmania. It is
already Tasmania's fastest growing industry sector. As an export
earner, tourism outstrips the combined contribution to Gross State
Product of the agriculture, mining and fishing sectors. And its
decentralised nature means that tourism brings economic growth and
employment to all regions.
Tourism 21 is the most significant outcome to date of the Tourism
Protocol Agreement and builds on the strategic framework established
by Tourism Tasmania's Strategies for Growth and TCA Tasmania's
Icons 2000.
Tourism 21 is the result of an extensive consultative process involving
the Government, Tourism Tasmania and all sectors of the tourism
industry. It is the first time that the Government and the industry
have worked together to establish performance indicators and clear
objectives for Tasmanian tourism, which will enable the industry
to plan and to invest with confidence.
We commend the authors of this report and thank all of those who
contributed their knowledge and experience to the development of
a blueprint for Tasmanian tourism into the next century.
