Changes to Bookings on Discover Tasmania website

Discover Tasmania home pageTourism Tasmania is making important changes to its Discover Tasmania website. After 30 November 2011, the Discover Tasmania website will link to any tourism operator's preferred web page where customers can make online reservations and payments. Tourism Tasmania will no longer limit the use of the Discover Tasmania website for online bookings via the Open Booking Exchange (OBX).

Tourism Tasmania is withdrawing from being a distributor under the Online Booking Exchange (OBX) model and will now provide visitors to the Discover Tasmania website with the opportunity to book with any operator who has an online booking page - not just those connected to the OBX.

For businesses using the OBX we will automatically redirect the link on your Discover Tasmania listing to your business-specific OBX booking page. If you prefer to use an alternative online booking page, then you should provide us with this alternative web page address (URL) before 31 October. Note that a link to a website home page will not suffice; the link must be to your check availability/price, booking/payment page.

For those businesses not using the OBX, you can now nominate a link to your preferred booking page directly from the Discover Tasmania website.

Sunrise in Evandale – Be There

With the support of Tourism Tasmania's Visiting Journalist Program, the Seven Network's Sunrise program will broadcast from Evandale this Friday 21 October to celebrate the town's success in being named the monthly winner of Australia's Happiest Towns competition. Sunrise and Vaalia Probiotic Yoghurt have joined forces to run the competition as part of their Campaign for Happiness - in which towns are nominated by describing the things which make them uniquely happy. Evandale was chosen for its village atmosphere, its unspoiled heritage, and for its ability to capture the spirit from days gone by.

Sunrise presenter James Tobin will broadcast from Evandale just after the 6:30am news and again after the 8:30am news, so if you have something to show Australia that is uniquely Evandale, bring it along to the Main Street of Evandale this Friday, 21 October. Close to half-a-million people are expected to watch Sunrise on Friday with the TV exposure estimated at over $600,000 in media value. The Rotary Club of Evandale will host a sausage sizzle from 6.30am and it is hoped locals get involved and head along to the filming to get their face on TV, meet James and join in the fun.
