Lumina 2011 - Intrastate Winter Campaign

Lumina Winter of FestivalsLumina, Tourism Tasmania's umbrella campaign promoting events and festivals around Tasmania during winter, commenced on 1 May and will run until 31 July with events running through to 31 August. Lumina 2011 aims to promote intrastate travel with a multi-channel campaign that includes television, radio, print and direct marketing, as well as a strong online presence with a dedicated Lumina calendar website and a social media promotion. Australia Post and the Examiner are also partnering the campaign with a direct mailout and newspaper support respectively.

Tourism operators can take advantage of some great advertising deals and buy into a schedule of radio and TV advertising throughout the campaign. If you're an event organiser and are holding an event during winter you can list it for free. And if you're not holding an event you can still benefit from the bookings generated by event-goers. Interested operators can also try out some new technology on their website.

For further information, including details of advertising opportunities, see Lumina 2011.

Business Tip - It Pays to Listen to Customers

People on a boatHobart Cruises, operators of the daily Peppermint Bay Cruise, believe it's important to listen to customers as it can add to the quality of their experience.

"Good listening can improve the experience during delivery and as part of monitoring and evaluation," said Alex Hale, Guiding Coordinator for Hobart Cruises.

"Listening to customers means that you can hone in on what interests them and it gives us a better chance to get our visitors involved", Alex said. Encouraging customers to communicate with you can pay off in other ways, too. It's one thing to offer a successful visitor experience – and another to keep evolving it so it doesn't lose its ability to attract customers. That's why regular customer surveys have also reaped benefits for Hobart Cruises.

For more information on how you can to improve your own visitor experience see Developing Visitor Experiences.

For more information on Hobart Cruises see the Peppermint Bay Cruises website.
