Our New Marketing Campaign

Tourism Tasmania will soon be launching a new domestic marketing campaign.

The campaign, called Secrets, will run from September to November 2010 and is the next stage of a long-term approach to keep Tasmania in market for ten months of the year.

The Secrets campaign will use a mix of marketing tools – printed booklets, public relations, an online presence and partnerships with airlines, wholesalers and retailers - in order to reach the widest possible audience in the most cost effective way.

The campaign features five Tasmanians selected by members of our Zone Marketing Groups. These personalities share their local hidden secrets in the printed booklets, on web video and on campaign webpages.

We will soon be sending out a sneak preview of the concepts for the campaign, along with booking information by email to all operators on our TigerTOUR database.

To make sure our email isn't blocked by your spam filter we suggest you add the address frontdeskno_reply@tourismtasmania.com.au to your contact list, or just check the National Marketing page on our website again in a couple of days time.

Media Success for Tourism Tasmania

Tourism Tasmania recently brokered a deal with glossy magazine Harper's Bazaar to feature Tasmanian accommodation in their travel section and to use MONA as a setting for a fashion shoot.

The September edition of Harper’s Bazaar, high-end fashion and lifestyle magazine, features a seven page spread showing a range of luxury accommodation across Tasmania helping to position Tasmania as having "avant-garde escapes to stylish gourmet retreats".

The 11-page fashion shoot at MONA Pavilions was arranged by Media Moguls with Tourism Tasmania arranging and supporting the deal.

The team from Harper’s Bazaar will add their Tasmanian experience to Tourism Tasmania's 'Experiences' pages on the Discover Tasmania web site. 'Experience' invites visitors and locals visiting new places to share their own stories, photos and video.

Digital Coach Program - Round Two

A second round of Tourism Tasmania's popular Digital Coach program is due to start in early September. Over 160 operators have so far participated in this innovative program.

The program is for operators who want to learn more about getting online. Tourism Tasmania has engaged six experts who make getting online easy by sharing advice on the Tas e-connect forum and providing phone assistance, small group and one-on-one support for operators who want to expand their business by getting online.

The program is hands on and is tailored to suit you and your staff, regardless of whether you know a little or a lot. This coaching service is FREE, but you must OPT IN.

For all those interested in continuing, or joining for the first time, contact the Tas e-Connect Help Desk on 1300 303 259 or email taseconnect@tourismtasmania.com.au

World Heritage Listing For Five Tasmanian Convict Sites

A total of 11 convict sites across Australia were added to the World Heritage List last month, five of which are located in Tasmania. This is great news for Tasmanian tourism.

The Tasmanian sites are the Cascades Female Factory in Hobart, Port Arthur Historic Site, the Coal Mines Historic Site - located on the north side of the Tasman peninsula, Brickendon and Woolmers Estates - located near Longford and the Darlington Probation Station - located on Maria Island.

The listings are expected to generate environmental, social and economic benefits for Tasmania.

Heritage is one of a range of special niche interest areas that Tourism Tasmania is helping to develop and promote. Tourism Tasmania recently ran heritage workshops in Hagley and Hobart to highlight opportunities in the Historic Heritage Tourism sector and help operators build heritage experiences that engage visitors.

The other sites that make up Australia’s 18th World Heritage listing are Old Government House and Domain, Hyde Park Barracks, Cockatoo Island Convict Site and Old Great North Road in New South Wales, Fremantle Prison in Western Australia, Kingston and Arthur’s Vale Historic Area in Norfolk Island.

East Coast Cycle Friendly Tourism Workshops

Tourism Tasmania, along with Sport and Recreation Tasmania and the Freycinet Coast Tourism Board, are holding a free Cycle Tourism Strategy Workshop incorporating Swansea, Coles Bay and Bicheno.

The workshop is not just for tourism operators but also for the broader community. The workshop will look at the opportunities and issues facing cycle tourism specific to Swansea, Coles Bay and Bicheno and also consider how to work with the broader community in promoting a cycle friendly destination.

The workshop will be held from 10:00am to 3:00pm on 31 August 2010 at the Bicheno RSL, Tribe St, Bicheno. Lunch will be provided.

If you're interested in attending, reply by 24 August to Lee Postma on 6230 8123 or lee.postma@tourism.tas.gov.au

Tourism Tasmania is also running free cycle friendly tourism workshops for tourism operators and interested business around the state on an expression of interest basis. The workshops will explore ways to develop a 'cycle friendly' community and how businesses can develop to meet this growing market segment.

For more information and to place an expression of interest contact Lee Postma on 62 308 123 or email lee.postma@tourism.tas.gov.au.

New Green Tourism Project

Tourism businesses in Tasmania can improve their environmental credentials and give themselves a marketing edge by joining the Green Tourism Project.

Last year's pilot project - Green TEA (Tourism Environmental Audit) - was hugely successful and helped Tourism Operators in the Southern region reduce their carbon footprint through reduction of waste, water and energy use.

GreenTEA has now become Green Tourism and will go Statewide in 2010 thanks to funding from a Climate Connect Grant. Organisers are looking for 80 tourism operators from around the State to participate in the new program.

Involvement starts from just $75 per year and participants will be able to promote their business through the Green Tourism website, as well as use the globally recognised Earthcheck logo on promotional material when their environmental benchmarks are met.

For more information visit www.greentourism.org.au, or email info@greentourism.org.au.

Eco Asia-Pacific Tourism Conference

This year's Eco Asia-Pacific Tourism Conference is being held from 24-28 October 2010 in Noosa, Queensland.

The conference program will offer industry professionals an outstanding keynote program featuring national and international leaders in their field addressing Sustainability, Best Practice Operator Case Studies, Green Marketing and more.
