Tasmania Wins Three National Awards

Congratulations to the three Tasmanian tourism businesses who recently won Qantas Australian Tourism Awards.

Winners were announced from 27 categories covering the many sectors of the tourism industry.

The Tasmanian winners and their categories are Bruny Island Cruises – Ecotourism; Pure Tasmania – Marketing; and Avalon Coastal Retreat – Deluxe Accommodation.

The awards were recently presented at the Hotel Grand Chancellor in Hobart. Over 800 industry leaders attended the event, with an audience including state and territory tourism ministers and Federal Minister for Tourism, Martin Ferguson.

The awards are organised annually by the National Tourism Alliance (NTA) on behalf of the Australian tourism industry.

See the list of winners on the Qantas website.

What Awards Can I Enter?

Want to enter an award but don't know where or how?

Tourism operators interested in submitting their business for an award can now find information on the Tourism Tasmania corporate website detailing many of the awards programs that are particularly relevant to Tasmanian tourism operators.

The page describes the business advantages of winning an award and provides a list of awards programs suitable for tourism businesses and individuals.

Tourism Tasmania will expand this list as additional awards become known.

The page also includes great tips on how to prepare an award submission.

The awards webpage can be found in the industry section of the Tourism Tasmania corporate website.

Zone Marketing Update

The East Coast Zone Marketing Group is partnering with Australian Gourmet Traveller in an online competition promoting the destination to high-end travel audiences.

The competition will run from 12 April to 12 May with the winner taking up to 3 friends on a luxury beach escape on Tasmania’s stunning East Coast.

In addition, the April edition of Australian Gourmet Traveller Magazine will include copies of the East Coast holiday planner for targeted subscribers in Victoria and NSW.

The partnership is a good example of how Zone Marketing Groups can successfully engage in their own targeted national marketing campaigns to promote their products and experiences to high-end holiday makers interstate.

Motel Mayfair On Cavell Celebrates its 40th Year

Congratulations to Hobart's Motel Mayfair on Cavell who celebrated 40 successful years of operation this month with the unveiling of a plaque dedicated to the property’s service and founders.

Opened in 1970 by Bernard and Matty Ludeke, the motel is one of the longest running family owned and managed accommodation businesses in Tasmania.

The quality service provided by Motel Mayfair is due largely to the commitment of long serving staff members, some of whom have been with the Ludeke family for over 20 years.

Motel Mayfair has participated in the National Tourism Accreditation Program since 1998 and was a finalist in the Hobart City Council’s Exceptional Customer Service awards for 2009.

We Were Wrong

In our previous edition a story titled 'Roamfree Integrates with Open Booking Exchange' referred to "those properties using Roamfree and its associated systems, including Bookeasy and Siteminder".

This should have read Bookeasy only, and should not have included Siteminder. We apologise for any confusion this may have caused.
