The Qantas Call Centre in Hobart celebrated its 10th anniversary yesterday.
Premier David Bartlett was at the Centre to say a few words to mark the occasion and cut the anniversary cake.
Also on hand was the Call Centre staff choir who provided first class entertainment on the day.
The call centre took its first call on 17 January 2000 and has continued to employ over 300 staff since then, with 14 of the foundation staff still with Qantas today.
Call centre staff take domestic and international reservations from around the world as well as handle thousands of calls each day from customers needing assistance with a wide range of travel requests.
Qantas directly contributes to Tasmania's economy as an employer, giving hundreds of Tasmanians the opportunity to work for this leading Australian company, and also in its important contribution to Tasmania's tourism sector.
From the 1st of February, the addition of a new Q400 aircraft to the Qantas fleet will increase capacity on the Melbourne Devonport route by 484 seats and by 540 seats on the Melbourne Launceston route.
After 10 years, Qantas can be rightly proud of their success, the dedication, aspiration and hard work of their staff and their valuable contribution to the local community and to the economy of Tasmania.
