Following our 21 December Tourism Talk article on Phase 3 of Tourism Tasmania's "There's a place....." campaign, we received such a strong response from businesses interested in advertising opportunities that all the print ads through the campaign are now fully sold. Phase 3 of the campaign has been shaped by feedback received from advertising partners and our own campaign tracking research undertaken after last spring. Based on these findings, a selection of print and digital advertising opportunities have been chosen to highlight Tasmania's touring credentials, products and offers between mid- February and the end of June, with most of the activity scheduled for March, April and May.
For those wanting to be a part of the campaign, it's not too late to be involved. A range of digital advertising opportunities for tourism operators will be available over the coming fortnight, so if you're interested in participating or hearing more about these digital opportunities but have not yet registered with us, please email victoria.langford@tourism.tas.gov.au . Our marketing team, led by new Marketing Director Kath McCann, are working hard on the latest campaign to boost Tourism Tasmania's year-round marketing activities and reinforce Tasmania's touring holiday status – all supported of course with relevant products and offers.
Last month, we mentioned that Tourism Tasmania would be looking at the status of accreditation in Tasmania to ensure that the government and Tasmania's tourism industry can take full advantage of the global opportunities offered under the new national T-QUAL initiative. Over the coming week, all Tasmanian tourism operators will receive an invitation and link to complete an online survey that will help us understand the local industry's views about accreditation generally. The survey, which should take around 10 minutes to fill out, invites the views of businesses without accreditation as well as those operating under a range of industry accreditation programs.
Qantas Airways will significantly increase capacity between Melbourne and Hobart from 13 February to 23 March 2012 with 18 additional services injecting a total of 3024 seats into the market. The additional services will see five additional flights from Melbourne to Hobart and five from Hobart to Melbourne in February, and four additional flights from Melbourne to Hobart and from Hobart to Melbourne in March. The additional services will provide travellers with seamless connections to and from the Qantas Group's international and domestic network out of Melbourne and further demonstrate the importance of the Hobart market for Qantas.
A short video highlighting Tasmania's experiences was produced recently by leading US digital travel content creator and distributer, Matador Network, an independent media company serving a global community of people who share a love for life and travel. A partnership between Tourism Tasmania and Matador saw professional blogger, Scott Sporleder, visit Tasmania for two weeks to develop online content for distribution via Matador's extensive online networks to U.S. travel, news, and lifestyle websites and blogs. While here, Scott produced an engaging short video promoting many of Tasmania's experiences along with photos, travel blogs, travel stories, Facebook posts and twitter feeds. With more than 90% of consumers using the internet to research their travel needs, it's more important than ever that Tasmania has engaging online content to attract the interest of potential travellers from around the world.
