Tasmanians holidaying at home are a significant component of the total tourism industry in Tasmania.
According to the National Visitor Survey (Tourism Research Australia), Tasmanians took 4.1 million overnight and day leisure trips in their home state in the 12 months ending June 2006, spending a total of $453.6 million. 

This report provides a brief overview of the key trends for overnight and day intrastate leisure travel in Tasmania using data from the National Visitor Survey (NVS), and the Holiday Tracking Survey (Roy Morgan Research). Leisure travel includes holiday travel or visiting friends/relatives.

It does not include business travel.
