Tassie Hawks Congratulated On Sensational Win
The Minister for Tourism, Michelle O’Byrne tonight congratulated the Tassie Hawks on their sensational win in today’s AFL Grand Final.
“The Hawks went into the final as the underdogs and they have come out on top,”Ms O’Byrne said.
“It was a hard fought final and they thoroughly deserved their 25 point win.
“It has capped off a brilliant season and for Tasmania to be emblazoned on their jumpers and seen by millions of football fans across the world is marketing that money couldn’t buy.
“The exposure for Tasmania is beyond our wildest dreams.
“I’m sure Tasmanians will be excited to welcome the Tassie Hawks to the State on Monday as part of their celebrations.”
Ms O’Byrne said details of the team’s trip would be announced as soon as they were finalised.
She also congratulated the Tasmanian under 16 team for its thrilling four point win against the Northern territory in a curtain raiser at the MCG earlier today.
“The players have done Tasmania proud and to play on the national stage, on the biggest day in the AFL calendar, and come out on top is a credit to all involved,” Ms O’Byrne said.
