Tasmania Says ‘Go Hawks’
The Minister for Tourism, Michelle O’Byrne, today wished the Hawthorn Football Club all the best on behalf of the State Government for its tilt at an AFL premiership against Geelong tomorrow.
Ms O’Byrne said as major sponsor of the Hawks, Tasmania was thrilled to see the club in the grand final.
“It has been a brilliant year for Hawthorn, and I’m sure all Tasmanians are keen to see them take the last step to achieve the top prize in the AFL.
“We know there is a massive amount of support in Tasmania for Hawthorn, and many footy fans will be barracking hard to get the Hawks across the line.”
“Many Tasmanians have an allegiance to other AFL teams, but they have also adopted Hawthorn as their second team in recognition of Tasmania’s close links with the club, and I’m sure they join with the many Tasmanian Hawthorn fans in wishing the team well tomorrow. ”
Ms O’Byrne said she welcomed Hawthorn planning to celebrate in Tasmania if it managed to win the premiership.
“It shows just how successful Tasmania’s sponsorship of Hawthorn has been, and how close the ties between our State and the football club have become.
“The amount of exposure Tasmania as a brand has received through this sponsorship is of huge benefit to our State, not least of which is the playing of four home and away games at Aurora Stadium every season.
“On top of this, to have our State presented front and centre at one of the most watched sporting events on the national calendar, not to mention all the lead-up coverage during the finals’ series, is a big marketing win.
“I’m sure all Tasmanian footy fans will join with me when I say: ‘Go Hawks!’."
