Providing Opportunities for the Events Industry
Two training initiatives are helping achieve Tourism Tasmania’s goals of emphasising partnerships and creating joint opportunities, the Acting Minister for Tourism, Michelle O’Byrne, announced today.
Ms O’Byrne said the Business Case Approach: Level 1 workshops were the first in a series of industry development activities which were being presented by Events Tasmania during the next twelve months.
“The Business Case Approach was developed by the Australia Business Arts Foundation and is a system which enables organisations to communicate the value of their event to business confidently, and to present powerful business cases.”
Ms O’Byrne said ABAF aimed to connect the arts with business, volunteers with projects, and people with knowledge and these workshops are an excellent introduction on how to build such mutually beneficial relationships.
Presented in both Launceston and Hobart by Ron Layne, who is the current Business Development Advisor for the Theatre Royal, the workshops introduce the business case approach and give participants tools to craft their events’ specific approach to business.
Ms O’Byrne said the two workshops were fully subsidised by Events Tasmania and offered an excellent opportunity for those in the events industry, at any level of their development, to understand the methodologies used to build effective business partnerships.
The next workshop will run on Thursday 18th September in Hobart at Wrest Point Casino’s Riviera Room.
Ms O’Byrne said Events Tasmania was also sponsoring a bursary for a Tasmanian event organiser to attend the Australian Centre for Event Management's Executive Certificate in Event Management 2008 program.
“Valued at $2000, this opportunity is being offered to the event industry for the first time in 2008, and Events Tasmania now invite Tasmanian event organisers, managers and administrators who wish to develop their skills and capabilities in the event sector to submit applications,” Ms O’Byrne said.
Applicants are required to complete a two-page submission which addresses the selection criteria, outlining how the proposed education will benefit themselves and their organisation.
Applications will be assessed on merit by a selection panel.
Further information may be found at http://www.acem.uts.edu.au/ or by contacting Events Tasmania on 6233 5946
Applications must be received no later than 5pm on Monday 6 October 2008.
“I encourage Tasmanian event organisers to take advantage of these two significant programs offered by Tourism Tasmania through Events Tasmania.
“They are part of the ongoing commitment to provision of training opportunities for the events industry, and I commend Tourism Tasmania for their dedication to fostering this spirit of continuous learning and development,” Ms O’Byrne said.
