Partnership Agreement with King Island
A Second Partnership Agreement between the State Government and King Island Council will include the development of a new marketing campaign to promote the King Island Brand.
The Agreement was signed today by Premier David Bartlett and Mayor Charles Arnold at King Island Council chambers.
The Premier said he looked forward to a continued spirit of cooperation with King Island Council.
“When State and Local Governments work together great things can happen.
“The first Partnership Agreement resulted in the development of a local tourism plan, industry development strategy and the Currie sewage treatment wetlands.
“This second Partnership Agreement will go even further to enhance the economic prosperity, lifestyle and wellbeing of the King Island community,” Mr Bartlett said.
Under the new Agreement the Government and Council will assist the Brand Management Group to develop a marketing campaign and an accreditation and training program.
“This will help enhance King Island’s iconic status as a producer of premium fine food,” Mr Bartlett said.
Other priorities include:
- A master plan for establishing a recreation complex
- contingency plans for short-term or long-term disruptions to shipping services
- improvements to the overall efficiency of energy supply and use
- an annual forum to promote the growth and development of primary industries.
King Island is the fifth council to sign a second agreement with the State Government.
“The State Governments Partnership Agreements Program is now in its 10th year during which time it has produced real results for communities throughout Tasmania .
“I want to ensure it goes from strength to strength. To that end we are currently conducting a review to maximise its value.
“The partnerships program must remain dynamic and adaptable to meet whatever challenges the future has in store,” Mr Bartlett said.
