Tiger Airways Doubles Flights to Tasmania
The Acting Minister for Tourism, Michelle O’Byrne, said today Tiger Airways’ decision to boost its Tasmanian services even further was a great vote of confidence in the State’s tourism industry and its ongoing marketing strategy.
The announcement that Tiger is doubling the number of flights to Tasmania follows yesterday’s news that it is set to begin direct flights between Adelaide and Hobart next year.
“Yesterday’s announcement was fantastic, today’s is even better,” Ms O’Byrne said.
“It is a sign of confidence in Tasmania’s tourism performance and reinforces our status as a tourism destination.”
“Doubling the number of low fare seats to 500,000 a year shows Tiger Airways’ faith in the Tasmanian market and it is tremendous news for Tasmanians and visitors alike.”
Ms O’Byrne said it vindicated the State Government’s ongoing work with airlines to grow the Tasmanian market.
“The Tasmanian Government is committed to growing the State’s tourism industry, and through Tourism Tasmania, has been working with the airlines on new route options to the State that complement their own business goals.
“Under the State Labor Government, the volume of seats to and from Tasmania has grown significantly , from just over 2.4 million seats in 1998, to well over 3.5 million seats today.
“This growth demonstrates the importance of the State Government’s ongoing partnerships with the State’s airports and major airlines,” Ms O’Byrne said
