TOURISM ACHIEVERS HONOURED
The Tasmanian Tourism Awards has tonight honoured its achievers at a dinner and awards ceremony at Wrest Point Hotel Casino.
The Minister for Tourism, Arts and the Environment, Paula Wriedt, said the industry’s gala night was an opportunity to celebrate the industry’s successes and recognise its outstanding achievers.
Ms Wriedt presented the Minister’s Award for Outstanding Contribution to Tourism to Peter Neilson, a respected member of the tourism industry for over 30 years.
“This award recognises the achievement of an individual who is viewed by peers and the industry as having given exceptional service to Tasmanian tourism.”
“Throughout his lengthy career in the industry, Peter Neilson has been dedicated to growing the Tasmanian tourism industry and driving benefits for the community,” said Ms Wriedt.
“Since starting his career with the Department of Tourism, Peter has gone on to own three travel agencies, and to introduce cable hang-gliding to the Tasmanian tourism industry.
“For over a decade, Peter’s dedication and hard work in outdoor adventure tourism generated nationwide media exposure for the State,” Ms Wriedt said.
“Peter’s recent work with the Launceston and Tamar Valley Tourism Association is further testament to his commitment to furthering the tourism industry in Tasmania and maximising the benefits for the entire community.”
Ms Wriedt presented the Minister’s Young Achiever Award to east coast accommodation manager Ian Reed.
“At just 30 years of age, Ian Reed has already achieved considerable business success and made a significant contribution to Tasmania’s tourism industry, particularly in the east and west coast regions,” said Ms Wriedt.
“Known for his professionalism and passion for providing exceptional service, Ian has recently orchestrated the redevelopment and growth of Diamond Island Apartments as well as being an active member of the Freycinet Coast Tourism Association.
“Ian continues to demonstrate his dedication to the growth of regional tourism and the Tasmanian tourism industry as a whole.”
Ms Wriedt congratulated both recipients and all award winners, acknowledging their integral role in the industry’s success.
