TIGER AIRWAYS
Representatives from Tourism Tasmania have met with officials from Tiger Airways several times since the low-cost carrier announced its intention to start domestic air services within Australia.

The Minister for Tourism, Arts and the Environment, Paula Wriedt, said that her Department has been actively working with Tiger Airways executives.

“Tourism Tasmania has put forward a business proposition on behalf of industry involving cooperative marketing support, and has introduced key personnel from Tasmanian airports to Tiger Airways officials,” Ms Wriedt said.

“As recently as late last week Tiger Airways had follow-up discussions with Tourism Tasmania officials on where Tasmania sits in the airline’s priorities for domestic Australian services.

“All of this information was covered in a Legislative Council Estimates Committee, so it is interesting to see that the Leader of the Opposition, Will Hodgman, is only now playing catch up on this issue,” she said.

Ms Wriedt said she was optimistic that Tiger Airways will include Tasmania in its start up services to Australia later this year.
