LOCAL TOURISM GRANTS BENEFIT COMMUNITIES
The Minister for Tourism, Arts and the Environment, Paula Wriedt, today announced the opening of Tourism Tasmania’s annual Local Tourism Grants program to assist tourism development throughout the State.

“The Local Tourism Grants program supports projects that provide significant benefits to local communities by developing and improving products or services for visitors,” said Ms Wriedt.

“We are making this investment in Tasmania’s future because we know these visitor experiences will bring economic returns for local communities that support and help deliver them.

“The Local Tourism Development Grants provide funds to smaller operators and tourism projects.”

Tourism Tasmania is providing up to $5,000 for successful applicants able to show that projects align with the strategies of Tourism 21.

Ms Wriedt said the grants are administered in consultation with the three regional tourism authorities – Cradle Coast Authority, Northern Tasmania Development and Tasmania’s South Regional Tourism Association.

“It is a requirement of this program that all applicants consult their Regional Tourism Authority to seek advice and support, and to ensure consistency with regional tourism plans,” she said.

Applications for funding close on 3 September 2007. For further information and application forms contact the Regional Tourism Authorities or visit Tourism Tasmania’s corporate website www.tourismtasmania.com.au/tasind/ind_related/grants.
