Team Tasmania Program Details
Team Tasmania is a program that enables 'export ready’ operators to work with Tourism Tasmania on a range of international marketing opportunities.
Eligibility
Membership of the program is invited from businesses demonstrating their commitment to international markets through activities such as, but not limited to:
- Participation in international travel trade events
- Membership of the Australian Tourism Export Council (ATEC)
- Participation in independent and Tourism Tasmania led Sales Missions in-market and to Australian based travel trade
- Provision of online bookable inventory to the travel trade, or working towards this
- Active engagement with Tourism Tasmania via formal events and communications In addition, participants must be willing to share business intelligence with other Team Tasmania members and Tourism Tasmania.

Application process
Team Tasmania is a collaborative partnership between Tourism Tasmania and our industry members who are 'export ready'. As such the application process will seek information that will enable Tourism Tasmania to assess each operator's current abilities in marketing internationally, and also confidence.

Cost of program
There is no cost for membership of Team Tasmania, apart from those associated with participation in member activities.
Membership criteria
Any tourism business able to meet the following criteria will be eligible for membership.
Business development
- Compliance with international travel trade and industry norms (i.e. applicable commissions and rate structure, appropriate access to inventory, provision of standard cancellation fee structure, 24/7 web and email contact, acceptance of vouchers on account)
- A product listing on www.discovertasmania.com
- Be e-commerce enabled ie. able to undertake a commercial transaction via the internet either directly or via a third party or working toward this capacity
- Be accredited through a recognised National Accreditation Program – go to www.tourismaccreditation.org.au
Marketing opportunities
- Participation in the Visiting Journalist Program (VJP) and Trade Familiarisation Program, recognising the value and importance of these programs
Communication, feedback and networking
- Regular attendance at Tourism Australia (TA) Market briefings and select Australian Tourism Export Council (ATEC) and Team Tasmania seminars/forums and networking events
- Subscription to Tourism Tasmania's Tourism Talk, Natural State News and Essentials (Tourism Australia) newsletters
- Active participation in the tourism industry e.g. Membership of your Local Tourism Association (LTA)
Operator benefits
A range of learning and development opportunities are available through Tourism Tasmania. It is expected that Team Tasmania members will participate in relevant opportunities as they arise. As the program develops, the benefits provided by Tourism Tasmania will also evolve to cater for the changing needs of the group and the markets in which we work. Examples of benefits are:
Business development
- Market overviews
- Market suitability assessment - matching product to market and intermediaries
- 'Understanding International Distribution' toolkit
- Review of international collateral and trade communications
- Advise and support in relation to product packaging and itinerary development.
Market access
- Provision of an 'Accessing the International Travel Trade' toolkit
- International and Australia based travel trade partner contact list
- Introduction to Australian based trade
- Inclusion in appropriate VJP and Trade familiarisations
- Inclusion in Tasmanian itineraries and packages developed and provided to Tourism Tasmania's travel trade partners
- Priority engagement with Tourism Australia's Aussie Specialist (ASP) and Tassie Specialist education programs
- Trade Event Participation Support packages, as appropriate
- Product and sector specific introductions to key travel trade by Tourism Tasmania's international teams
- Fully co-ordinated Tourism Tasmania led sales missions in market
- Assistance with sales call itinerary and appointment scheduling and planning for in-market sales calls
- ATEC membership fee subsidy (2 years maximum)
- Consultation and information on applying for Department of Economic Development and Federal Government grants relating to export marketing.
Commitments of membership
Business development
- Regularly review and enhance your listing on www.discovertasmania.com that feeds into the Australian Tourism Data Warehouse database
- Make available a minimum of five high quality images (free of copyright) to the Tourism Tasmania Visual Library, for destination marketing purposes
- Undertake to educate a broad cross-section of your management and staff to understand international marketing and your target markets
- Apply best-practice 'meet and greet' and hosting arrangements for VJP and Travel Trade Familiarisation visits
- Follow-up VJP actions, where required, within ten working days
- Commit to developing and administering a transparent and effective process for collecting and implementing customer feedback
- Incorporate market specific, high quality interpretation and experience development consistent with your brand and as part of your business strategy.
Access
- Provide product information, as required, for the Team Tasmania 'Export Ready' travel trade itineraries and for trade and consumer events
- Proactively liaise with Australia based travel trade partners to increase understanding of Tasmania and of the Team Tasmania membership
- Utilise Tourism Tasmania's 'whole of state' presentation tools and templates
- Provide support materials for the travel trade online training websites – Aussie / Tassie Specialist Program
- Develop and maintain an 'international friendly' website (guidelines provided)
- Provide appropriate famil, training and incentive opportunities to trade partners (e.g. ITO's and Wholesalers) including sales and reservations staff as required
- Provide regular product updates to Tourism Tasmania staff
- Provide appropriate forums/opportunities for Tourism Tasmania staff and guides to experience your product
- Comply with Tourism Tasmania travel trade event protocols (as applicable)
- Undertake appropriate trade event follow-up in a timely manner
- Attend Team Tasmania post event de-briefs and complete post event feedback as appropriate.
Communication
- Commit to working co-operatively with other tourism providers and tourism bodies – locally, regionally and on a state-wide basis
- Actively seek to develop appropriate itineraries and packages with other Team Tasmania members
- Act as advocates for the Team Tasmania program.
